We live in shifting times but are rooted in eternal truths, the teachings of Holy Scripture. Here at Hope Church we are guided by certain foundational beliefs and shaping values.
1. We believe the gospel is the heart of everything.
The message of Jesus shapes who we are and how we live, bringing real hope to real people. In a diverse and vibrant city like Durban, we believe the gospel unites us across cultures, backgrounds, and stories. It’s the good news that changes lives, restores families, and brings hope where it’s needed most.
2. We believe every person can grow and help others grow.
Following Jesus is a lifelong journey, and we believe discipleship is simply learning to walk that journey together. In Durban—where community is everything—we want to help people discover faith, deepen faith, and share faith in everyday life. No matter your age or stage, there’s always a next step you can take.
3. We believe the Holy Spirit empowers us today.
We believe God is active, present, and speaking—guiding us, strengthening us, and equipping us for His purposes. In a fastpaced city like ours, we rely on the Holy Spirit for wisdom, courage, and supernatural love. We want people to experience the Spirit not just in church gatherings, but in their homes, workplaces, and communities.
4. We believe we are sent to love and serve our city.
The church exists for God’s mission, and we want to make a meaningful impact in Durban by living out the love of Jesus. Whether through acts of kindness, community outreach, or simply being good neighbours, we believe the gospel should make Durban a better place. Our hope is that people experience Jesus through the way we live, speak, and serve.
5. We believe the Bible is our foundation.
We believe the Scriptures are trustworthy, lifegiving, and relevant for everyday living. We want people to discover the joy and clarity that comes from building their lives on God’s Word.
6. We believe every person is created with purpose.
We believe God has uniquely designed every person with gifts, potential, and calling. Durban is full of incredible talent and diversity, and we believe the church should be a place where people discover who God made them to be. When each person steps into their Godgiven purpose, the whole community thrives.
7. We believe in doing life together as family.
We believe church isn’t just a Sunday event — it’s a family where we celebrate together, carry each other, and grow together. In a busy and sometimes isolating world, we want to build authentic community where people feel known, supported, and loved. Durban’s warmth and cultural richness inspire us to cultivate a church family that welcomes everyone.
